July 31, 1861. Winston went to town sent Mother some melons. Gen. Hopkins gave him some fish.

July 29, 1861. Winston went to town & I went to Tina’s & as business detained Winston until late we took dinner there. I received letters from Mother & Julia.

July 28, 1861. [no entry]

July 27, 1861. Winston & Ben went bee tree cutting. In the afternoon Ma & the girls went to Tina’s.

July 26, 1861.  Clark & Tina spent the day with us.  Clark & Winston went hunting, killed a bear.

July 24, 1861. Winston went to town in the morning & stayed all day, sent some melons to Mother.

July 17, 1861. In the morning all the folks went to Tina’s in the afternoon Winston, Ben & I went. Mary & Jessup left on boat & Bama with them, Ma, Ida & Alabama came home with us.

July 16, 1861. Winston & Jessup came home in the afternoon killed two deer & a turkey.

July 15, 1861. Winston & Jessup started on a hunt until tomorrow.

July 14, 1861. In the afternoon went to Tina’s then to church then to Mrs. Hopkins, Ma, the girls, Mary & Jessup came back with us.

July 13, 1861.  Winston's 32nd birthday, he went hunting in the morning & killed a deer. In the afternoon Ben went to Clark’s & Toady came home with him. Rosa had fever.

July 12, 1861. Ma & the girls went to Tina’s in the morning. Rosa had fever.

July 11, 1861. Winston, Jessup & Ben started before breakfast hunting had bad luck. After they get breakfast W & J went to town. In the afternoon Mary & Jessup went to Clark’s.

July 10, 1861. In the morning Tina & Clark came to spend the day. The men folks went hunting killed a turkey & squirrel.

July 9, 1861. In the morning Winston, Jessup & Ben went to a field & got some melons then started to go fishing.

July 8, 1861.  I went with Winston to town in the morning.  Mary & Jessup came on the boat. Winston stayed in town all day to attend to a case with Mr. Dukes, the rest of us went from the boat to Tina’s & stayed awhile.

July 6, 1861. Winston went to town in the morning did not return until three o’clock, he went to see a boat race. In te afternoon Ma & the girls came.

July 3, 1861.  In the morning Winston went for his bees, & saw a negro at the field & had to shoot him to make him stop, he had him brought here & sent for the Doctor, he & young Allen came & carried him home. In the afternoon Winston went to town sent Mother a bag of vegetables & some honey.

July 2, 1861. Soon after breakfast, Ben & Winston & Clark & Toady went to cut bee trees, I took Rosa, Jane & jesse & spent the day at Tina’s Ben’s better. In the afternoon before I left Mrs. Hopkins & Bella came. Winston brought home two buckets of honey.

July 1, 1861. Mary did not come on the boat. Winston went to town, received a bundle of things from Mother. In the afternoon Toady came over for some things for Ma & to say she could not come as Reubannah was sick. Rain.
