My very dear Husband

Again this week I have no direct news from you but was glad to get one last night which ought to have come last week, and know that you were well then.  We had no boat on Monday as the "Hattie" had been sent up the river with troops &c for Smyrna, but she came down at night & went to Palatka for the mail & returned last night with wagons & horses & dont know when she will be back.  so I am writing this to send by the Silver Spring at eleven o'clock.  I have but little time & writing with Rosa in my lap, pulling my paper, and hands, so you must excuse writing.  Rosa is fretful this morning she missed her fever the day I wrote to you last and has not had a return, but her bowels have been quite troublesome.  I can not find any teeth, but think some must be coming.  I am beginning to wean her, she has not nursed through the day for two days.  The boys drove up a cow last week so I give her boiled milk & bread or rice she will not eat much, but gets two "jugs" full when she goes to bed and a good deal through the night, she has a restless spell about every night. I was up until after ten o’clock last night waiting for the mail, & after I went to bed she was so restless that I did not get to sleep until between one & two, & I tell you I was tired of it, her cough is much better, very nearly well, the rest of us are all well, little Willie is over here again for his health, he is the only sick one in Clark’s family. he, Clark, has a bad boil just above his right breast which was very painful on Sunday. Tina has concluded not to go to Jack ‑ she is enormous I tell her to expect double, but her health is still good only she is very helpless she thinks she can not go until March. Clark has spoken to Dr Currel but he has moved to Priest’s place. I fear all will be over before we can get him. she had too much exercise twice which makes me fear for her at the time. I have just killed a snack.

I went to Tina’s and stayed over last Sunday night to meet Lou on Monday, but no boat and I shall go again next Sun unless I hear from her or the boys differently this week, for we have not heard this week. No letter from Mrs Bradley yet and no syrup. A vessel was towed up by the Zephyr last night for Gardner, he has stopped building at the lake, has two more mules & gone to hauling again.

Burrel & Jane are ploughing, began Monday.  they have not rolled all the logs in the new ground as they are very large, I told him to wait until you came & perhaps you would have a "rolling", for they were all straining.  I am glad I made them stop when I did for after that on Sunday last he was laid up with his back.

Tina wrote yesterday that Key West was taken by the Yankees, but I think she must mean Cedar Keys, for the other has been held by the Yankees all the time.  Dick wrote last week that he was going for MA.  he & Swep have bought each others places, & Dick wants Ma to live with him.  From what Jacob says Gen told him, I shall expect you & the whole company in Welaka next week.  perhaps you wont get this, but I write so that if you dont come you'll get it.  When you come, (if you get this) and can please bring me a large dish pan & some envelopes.

I send Grants notes this time certain. the piece of newspaper is not his. I must send this off. do hope to see you next week. I looked for you [part of page torn away] the first of this, as Gen H- said the St Marys was to be chartered to bring you all & the companies I hear are leaving Fernandina. All send love, Rosa is asleep.  I send all the love that is due a good husband

                                                                                                Ever affectionately

                                                                                                Tivie
